Collaborative Evaluation and Research Centre

The Collaborative Evaluation and Research Centre (CERC) aims to improve the skill sets, management and leadership of organisations through customised training and co-designed evaluation.

The Collaborative Evaluation & Research Centre (CERC) – part of the Institute of Health and Wellbeing – is dedicated to working together to build evaluation capacity and expertise. CERC’s expert multidisciplinary teams work across all sectors, including health, community health, education, environment, social science and business management.

The Centre’s researchers collaborate with organisations of all kinds to co-design robust, relevant and cost-effective evaluations of programs, projects and services. They offer training, mentoring, online and paper-based resources, evaluation design and workshops. CERC is committed to sharing knowledge, using ethical research methods and partnering with communities to transform lives.

Capacity and capability building of the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation

CERC is partnering with Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) to survey its members about their thoughts on their own health and wellbeing, their views on accessing quality health services, their experiences with the healthcare system and their perceptions of providers' cultural competency.

CERC will also work with the Board and members to build research and evaluation capacity and capability, and the Federation Aboriginal Education Centre staff will support the project. WTOAC covers over 10,000 square kilometres on the western side of Melbourne and includes the major regional cities of Geelong and Ballarat.

Strengthening research governance with Latrobe Community Health Service

CERC is partnering with Latrobe Community Health Service (LCHS) to advance its research and evaluation capability as a foundation for high-quality, impactful care.
Through this partnership, LCHS is delivering a comprehensive program focused on strengthening research and evaluation across the organisation. Central to this initiative is the development of a robust and sustainable research governance framework, supported by CERC’s expertise.

LCHS is committed to embedding a culture of evaluation excellence. This work will enhance the organisation’s ability to measure, understand and demonstrate the effectiveness, impact and value of its programs and services.

DELIVER project

CERC is evaluating DELIVER: Delivering Enhanced heaLthcare at home through optImising Virtual tools for oldEr people in Rural and regional Australia. This is a partnership with healthcare consumers, regional and rural health services, universities and primary healthcare providers across western Victoria. Led by Western Alliance, the project will identify and build a suite of programs to improve and extend in-home healthcare.

Yarram offshore wind research study

CERC is working with the Wind Transition Working Group (WTWG) on a social impact study to develop a set of social indicators unique to the region that will guide the future development of the offshore wind industry. Through a series of community engagement workshops and a survey, the study will explore current and future hopes and concerns of the community.

  • Provide opportunities for residents of Yarram to inform the development of wind social indicators

Federation University's co-op model

CERC will oversee the establishment of a governance, monitoring and evaluation structure to assess the implemented co-op model at Federation University. Through a series of workshops and activities, staff, students and industry partners will be invited to help design a co-op evaluation plan that will enable the organisation to report periodically on the impact and outcomes of the co-op model with comparable and combinable data sets. The collaborative approach will provide support for academics and professional staff engaged in co-op research and evaluation.

Creating inclusive work environments through leadership and management innovations​

CERC has partnered with the Victorian Skills Authority (VIC) and Federation TAFE to create inclusive work environments in the construction and manufacturing sectors by introducing leadership and management innovations. The output of this project is expected to address challenges related to apprentice attraction, retention and course completion.

Researchers will use a co-design process with stakeholders of the construction and manufacturing sectors, registered training organisations, employees and their associations, and the government. They will then deliver a package of leadership and management learning materials.

Peer Relationship Education Partners (PREP) Program – GCASA (Phase 3)

New Wave Gippsland (NWG) has been working with the Gippsland Centre Against Sexual Assault (GCASA) to build its capacity since 2020. The organisations will deliver the Sexual Lives and Respectful Relationships project, which facilitates a community-based education program to promote sexuality rights and respectful relationships.

CERC will work with NWG and GCASA to evaluate the impact, outcomes and process learnings of the planning and implementation of the project and contribute to its capacity-building objectives by hosting a series of evaluation workshops. This will enable NWG and GCASA to continue internally evaluating this project in the future.

'I Am Deadly' evaluation 

CERC evaluated the implementation of the ‘I Am Deadly’ project, which is a version of the ‘I Am Ready’ project targeting young Aboriginal students. The project provided Aboriginal students with pathways to encourage them to take up a trade. It also promoted continuing education to improve post-secondary employment options.

Gippsland Aboriginal Advocacy Support Services (GAASS)

This project evaluated the work of Gippsland Aboriginal Advocacy Support Services (GAASS) in supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, families and carers to better understand and access the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). The evaluation explored how the program strengthened workforce capability and improved support across Gippsland.

Physical literacy enriched environmental design in the Latrobe Valley

This project investigated how physical literacy-enriched design can improve physical literacy outcomes in the Latrobe Valley. The collaborative evaluation supported the design of local parks and play spaces in line with physical literacy-enriched environment design criteria. The CERC team worked in partnership with LHA and PLEED group, Latrobe City Council (LCC), Mathison Park Advisory Committee and LCC Recreation Planning Team to collect data.
