Biography
Dr Elissa Dabkowski is a senior lecturer in Nursing at Federation University Australia and Lead of the Digital Health research stream within the nursing discipline. Her teaching and research focus on undergraduate nursing education, digital health literacy, academic integrity, patient safety and transition to professional practice. Elissa is passionate about research and enjoys fostering research curiosity and capability in both students and staff. She values creating opportunities for others to engage with research, build confidence and translate evidence into practice.
Before joining academia, Elissa worked clinically as a registered nurse in emergency care and as a physiotherapist in private practice, bringing a strong interdisciplinary perspective to her work. Her PhD, undertaken through a co-funded industry scholarship with Federation University Australia and Latrobe Regional Health, explored patients’ falls risk awareness in regional Victorian hospitals.
Elissa is the Federation University alternative representative for the Australian Council of Senior Academic Leaders in Digital Health and is actively involved in research and scholarship focused on digital capability, professional readiness, and ethical practice in healthcare education.

Her work focuses on preparing nursing students for contemporary practice through authentic assessment, simulation-based learning, electronic medical record integration, and research-informed curriculum design. She also has expertise in mixed methods and qualitative research, including co-designed educational research and reflexive thematic analysis.
