Student-led organisation

To apply for a position on the student-led organisation, you must: 

• be currently enrolled in a higher education course at Federation University Australia at the time of nomination
• be reasonably able to participate in meetings, consultation activities and related representative duties
• be studying at a time fraction of 0.5 or more
• be 18 years or over
• have provided true, accurate and complete information in your nomination form.

You are not eligible if you:

• are employed by the University at 0.5 FTE or more
• are currently serving a custodial sentence or subject to any legal restriction that would materially prevent you from performing the duties of the role
• are currently suspended, excluded or expelled from the University  
• are subject to any current University direction, condition, restriction or sanction that would materially prevent you from performing the duties of the role
• have been the subject of a final finding or currently under investigation by the University of student misconduct that is reasonably relevant to the duties of a committee member
• have been removed from office as a member of the Student Senate, or an equivalent University student representative body, for neglect of duties, disruptive conduct, breach of confidentiality, unmanaged conflict of interest, misuse of position or breach of applicable rules. 

As a member of the student-led organisation, you can expect to:   

• attend up to four meetings per year
• represent the interests and perspectives of Federation students
• contribute to setting priorities and allocating funding for selected SSAF-funded services and initiatives
• help promote student participation and engagement across the University
• support equitable access to services, programs and opportunities for students across all campuses and study modes
• work collaboratively with other student representatives and Federation staff
• uphold good governance, transparency and accountability in all activities.

Some commitments will take place outside the standard academic semester, particularly during the establishment of the organisation. Members will be offered a stipend.

Positions on the inaugural student-led organisation are for a one-year term, commencing in October 2026 and concluding at the end of Semester 2, 2027. If you're scheduled to graduate during this time, you're still encouraged to apply.

Applications open on Monday 7 September. Complete the application form and name two students who support your nomination. Don't forget to include a photo that clearly shows your face.

You’ll also be asked to provide either a video statement (up to three minutes) with a transcript, or a written statement (up to 300 words). Email your application form, statement and photo to slo@federation.edu.au.

Make your statement stand out by being personal and specific. Tell us why you'd like to join the student-led organisation, what interests you about the role and what you hope to contribute. You don't need previous leadership, governance or budgeting experience to apply. We're looking for students with different interests, perspectives and experiences. 

Your statement is your chance to introduce yourself to other Federation students. If your application goes to an election, your video or written statement will be shared as part of the voting process.
