Student volunteering at Federation
Get involved in uni life and learn new skills by volunteering on (or off) campus.
Volunteering is a great way to meet new people, build your skills and make a real difference – on campus or in the community. It can also help you grow your confidence and employability. Explore the opportunities below – there might be a role (or two) that could see yourself doing.
Volunteering on campus
Academic Board members meet to discuss issues and ideas that relate to the academic governance of university projects and processes.
Responsibilities
- Attend at least six Academic Board meetings per year
- Attend up to eight Student Senate meetings per year
- Prepare for meetings by reading agenda papers
- Provide a verbal or written report at some meetings
How to apply
You need to complete your nomination form and name two students who support your nomination. Applications are currently closed but will be advertised here when places become available.
Standing Committee members meet to discuss issues and ideas that relate to the academic governance of university projects and processes.

- Attend at least six Learning and Teaching Quality Committee meetings per year
- Attend up to eight Student Senate meetings per year
- Prepare for meetings by reading agenda papers
- Provide a verbal or written report at some meetings

Research Committee members meet to discuss issues and ideas that relate to the academic governance of university projects and processes.

- Attend up to eight Student Senate meetings per year

Executives form and oversee student clubs. These can be activity-based, theme-based or aimed at a particular cohort of students.
How to start a club
Explore our groups webpage to find out what already exists at your campus. If you’d like to start a new club, register your interest. Once you have four or more members and an annual plan that includes at least four events, you can apply to become a formal group (one with governance and paid membership) or an informal group (no governance or membership fee).
Student Senate represetatives (reps) give a voice to students, raise feedback with staff, propose changes and help make Federation University a better place.
Responsibilities
- Attend up to eight Senate meetings per year
- Write a report before each meeting
- Host a student forum on your campus each semester
- Monitor the Senate’s social media channels
- Discuss student issues with staff
- Plan and instigate changes
- Represent the student voice in University projects
- Join one of the Senate's working groups
How to apply
Senate positions open twice a year – in March and July. You can nominate yourself for a specific role by writing a candidate statement and submitting an application form. If more than one person is nominated, an election is held.
RISE crew members help run Orientation and other on-campus student events throughout the year.
Responsibilities
- Set up stalls
- Run activities
- Prepare and give out food
- Distribute merch
- Encourage student involvement
- Give directions
You’ll also need to attend a 3-hour on-campus training session in January.
How to sign up

Student Equity and Inclusion Network (SEIN) members help plan and improve initiatives designed to accommodate and celebrate diversity.
Responsibilities
- Attend three or four online meetings per year
- Contribute to new initiatives to increase student equity, inclusion, belonging, safety and community
- Provide feedback on initiatives and action plans
- Discuss policies and practices and recommend areas for development
You’ll be paid $50 for each meeting you attend.
