Apply for a Co-op placement

Our Co-op Placement Portal makes it easy to find and apply for placement opportunities.

When to apply for a placement

Co-op placements are usually undertaken from second year. Once you're enrolled, we’ll send you a link to the Co-op Placement Portal so you can register a new account (you won't be able to use your standard Federation student ID and password). It may be possible to complete your placement earlier than it appears in your course structure. Contact your course coordinator to discuss options.

How to find a placement

You're responsible for finding and applying for placements that are aligned with your area of study and advertised on the Co-op Placement Portal. It's essential to start early so you can lock in your preferred placement.

When you're logged in, select ‘Placement opportunities’ from the menu and filter by keyword, location, type or category.

Not sure what to choose? All placements are from trusted industry partners – they have our tick of approval. So all you need to do is keep an open mind and think about what you’d like to get out of the experience. Remember, you can apply for as many co-op placements as you like.

Before you apply

Have your resume and cover letter ready to go before you start your application.

How to apply for a placement

Log into the Co-op Placement Portal. If you haven't used it before, you'll need to register a new account first (you won't be able to use your standard Federation student ID and password).

Select ‘My profile’ then ‘Information’ from the menu. Copy and paste your resume into the text box then make formatting changes using the editing tools. What you see here is what prospective employers will see, so make it look good!

Make sure your personal and contact info is correct. If it isn’t, you’ll need to update your details in my Student Centre.

Select ‘Placement opportunities’ from the menu. View the positions that align with you study area and press the ‘Apply’ button.

Select ‘Applications’ from the menu. Click the file icon to the right of your application, then select or drag and drop your cover letter into the box.
