How our strategic plan impacts students

Federation’s 2040 strategic plan is about creating more opportunities for both current students and graduates. It strengthens the personalised, career-focused education we’re known for, expands industry-connected learning and invests in the regional communities many of our learners and alumni call home.
How our drivers relate to students
Federation’s Co-op model means students gain real-world experience while they study. They'll learn in workplaces, earn through paid placements and build industry networks. By 2040, Co-op will shape all learning experiences at Federation, giving students the confidence, skills and career-ready mindset to step straight into meaningful work.
We're increasing places in high-demand fields like health, education, engineering, renewable energy, business and IT – meaning stronger pathways to regional careers. With new innovation precincts, applied research opportunities and industry-connected learning, students will gain the skills and experience that local employers are looking for.
We want to make sure our students feel supported, included and empowered from the moment they enrol to long after they graduate. Federation is strengthening pathways between TAFE and higher education, expanding scholarships and designing flexible learning so more people can access quality education close to home.
Our plan will strengthen learning experiences by embedding First Peoples’ knowledges, cultures and perspectives across all studies in meaningful and respectful ways. Students will learn in culturally safe environments, benefit from community-led teaching and have opportunities to engage with First Peoples’ languages, histories and worldviews.
We give students the best of both worlds – local experience and global opportunities. Federation is attracting a diverse international student community and expanding Co-op placements with multinational partners. Students will build an international network and access global research and employment pathways, all while studying close to home.
In 2025, over 5400 of our students completed placement.
