How our strategic plan impacts regional communities

Find out how our strategic plan supports regions, economic priorities and community wellbeing.

As the only university headquartered in regional Victoria, we’re focused on strengthening local workforces, supporting innovation, expanding access to education and contributing to vibrant, sustainable communities. We want to deliver outcomes that make regional Victoria an even better place to live, learn and work.

How our drivers relate to regional communities

Co-op strengthens regional economies by keeping talent, innovation and opportunity close to home. Learners gain experience with local employers, often transitioning straight into regional jobs, while businesses benefit from new skills and fresh ideas. Partnerships drive investment into technology parks and research that responds to local priorities.

By training more local professionals, supporting innovation and partnering with councils, services and community groups, Federation contributes directly to stronger workforces, better services and more resilient industries. Our campuses will become hubs of culture, creativity and lifelong learning, supported by sustainability initiatives that help regions transition to low carbon, connected futures.

We aim to strengthen regional communities by opening doors to education for more people, especially those who have historically faced barriers to participation. By expanding pathways, growing TAFE and university offerings and supporting learners from diverse backgrounds, Federation will help build a more skilled, confident and connected regional workforce.

We'll strengthen our outreach and engagement with First Peoples’ communities across our regions to enhance cultural responsiveness, trust and community benefit. We'll work to help close education and employment gaps, increase cultural visibility across campuses and ensure reconciliation is lived, shared and embedded across the regions.

We aim to bring global knowledge, talent and investment into regional Victoria while prioritising community needs. International students enrich local culture and economies, often living, working and contributing to high-demand sectors in the regions. Global research collaborations help tackle challenges that matter locally while showcasing regional innovation on an international stage.

Investing in staff capability, wellbeing and workplace culture helps us deliver high quality education, research and community engagement across every campus. A thriving Federation workforce contributes directly to local jobs, regional innovation and stronger social and economic outcomes for the communities we serve.

We met 79% of our student growth targets in 2024.
