How our strategic plan impacts industry

Federation’s 2040 strategic plan strengthens our commitment to building a regional workforce. We aim to expand our industry-aligned training and boost applied research capacity, giving employers direct pathways to talent, technology and new ideas. We want businesses and organisations across our regions to collaborate and grow with us.
How our drivers relate to industry
Co-op gives employers a direct role in shaping the future workforce. We invite industry to co-design curriculum, host learners, access new talent pipelines and collaborate on research aligned with their needs. Paid placements make it easier to identify and train future employees, while joint research projects deliver practical solutions in fast moving fields.
We're expanding training in critical fields – from healthcare and education to engineering, clean energy, digital technologies and business – all aligned with employer demand and government workforce planning. Industry partners can also collaborate directly with learners and researchers to solve real challenges, adopt new technologies and grow regional capability.
Federation learners will graduate with strong skills, confidence, networks and a track record, which means a smoother transition to work. By integrating TAFE and higher education through our Co-op model, we'll deliver flexible, industry-connected learning experiences that respond to local needs and national priorities.
We're keen to partner with local organisations to expand our support for First Peoples’ learners and offer meaningful career pathways. Employers are invited to sponsor and collaborate on our outreach programs, contribute to scholarships and offer paid placements. We will also support organisations to deliver better outcomes for First Peoples’ communities and contribute to reconciliation in practical, measurable ways.
We'll grow our international research collaborations and reputation for solving regional challenges by partnering with leading institutions and expanding our cohort of globally engaged higher degree by research candidates. We'll also expand our Co-op network internationally, enabling placements with multinational partners.
We want to support our academic staff to gain fresh insights from industry settings – insights they bring back into classrooms, training and research. This will create stronger alignment between employer needs and what learners study, while also supporting a culture of collaboration, innovation and shared talent development across our regions.
We expect to contribute over $2 billion in economic output.
