Placement for postgrad students
Placement means working in a clinical setting. It gives you the chance to apply your knowledge in real situations – great preparation for being in the workforce. Master of Psychology (Clinical) students must complete at 1000 hours across 70 weeks. Master of Professional Psychology students must complete 315 hours across 22 weeks.
You’ll use the InPlace platform to upload essential documents, submit your placement preferences and find out where you’ve been placed. Log in with your student ID and password.
Find out more about organising your placement via InPlace.
Before your placement can be confirmed, you’ll need to upload various mandatory documents to InPlace (including a Police Check, a Working with Children Check and your immunisation status). Some of these can take 6–12 weeks to organise, so best start early.
The Standardised Student Protocol (set by the Department of Health and Human Services) will help you understand your role and the responsibilities of both the placement provider and Federation University.
You must have your provisional registration with the Psychology Board of Australia before you go on placement (ideally before you start your course). Read more about the process and apply online.
Placements are supported by FedCare Psychology Services and more than 50 external placement partners across Victoria, including public health, private practice, forensic and educational settings and community health services.
