Get the Paid Placement Support Guarantee
If you’re an international student and your course includes mandatory placement, you might be eligible to receive a payment.
Financial support while you're on placement
Our Paid Placement Support Guarantee is designed to help international students manage financially while on placement. You may be eligible for either Industry Paid Placement or a Placement Support Scholarship. You don't need to apply for either type of funding.
Eligibility
To receive a payment, you must:
- be an international student
- be commencing in 2025 or 2026
- not be a study abroad, exchange or online student
- be enrolled in one of the eligible courses (listed below)
- be enrolled in mandatory placement units
- have your placement confirmed
- hold a valid study visa that permits you to study in Australia for the duration of your course.
Payment types
If you’re doing one of our Co-op courses, you’ll have paid industry placements embedded into your course structure. You’ll do a minimum of 60 days’ placement (for bachelor’s degrees) or 30 days’ placement (for master’s degrees) and your employer must pay you at least the minimum industry wage (according to the Fair Work Act 2009).

- Bachelor of Information Technology (Business Analysis)
- Bachelor of Information Technology (Cybersecurity)
- Bachelor of Information Technology (Software Application Development)
- Bachelor of Information Technology (Professional Practice)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Engineering (Mining) (Honours)
- Bachelor of Science.
Placement Support Scholarships are for international students who have mandatory placement units but are not doing Co-op courses. Eligible undergraduate students will receive $10,000 and eligible postgraduate students will receive $5,000.
There’s no need to apply. If you’re eligible, we’ll send you an email that explains when to expect your payment and which placement unit it relates to.
Payments will be made:
- after census date of each semester that includes a placement unit
- in equal instalments
- pro-rata (in part) to students who don’t complete the full number of placement units
- only once for each placement unit.

- Master of Professional Psychology.
