SMB Children's Centre
Childcare for children aged six weeks to five years and state‑funded kindergarten, welcoming families from Federation and the wider Ballarat community.
Opening hours
Find us on the Federation University SMB Campus. Our purpose‑built centre supports up to 80 children across five rooms, including kindergarten and teaching spaces for Early Childhood Education students. Shared indoor and outdoor play areas give children space to explore and connect with other children, siblings and educators.
About SMB Children's Centre
All our educators are trained in first aid, CPR, and asthma and anaphylaxis management to help keep your child safe. We keep our child‑to‑educator ratios low (1:4 for children under three and 1:11 for children over three) to make sure every child gets the attention they need.
Sally Matthews is the Centre Coordinator. Her qualifications include:
- Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management, Gowrie Victoria
- Diploma of Children's Services, University of Ballarat
- Leading People in Early Childhood Settings, Bastow Institute
- Collaborative Partnerships with Families and Communities, Bastow Institute
- University Women in Leadership Program
- Early Childhood Australia Leadership Program.
Lea McPhee is the Deputy Coordinator. Her qualifications include:
- Diploma of Children’s Services, University of Ballarat
- Leadership Series, Gowrie Victoria
- Early Childhood Australia Leadership Program.
