Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct

The Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct is where researchers and industry experts come together to tackle regional challenges and support local economic growth.

Our mission

We aim to support a sustainable regional economy by examining agribusiness, renewable energy, health and wellbeing, inclusive wealth and circular economy promotion. Our goal is to drive innovation and economic growth in the Ararat region through collaborative, industry-connected research that addresses real-world challenges.

About the Precinct

The Ararat Jobs and Technology Precinct brings together Federation University, Ararat Rural City, local industry and the community to support economic growth and job creation in the region. This collaborative way of working aims to address regional challenges and opportunities, with an emphasis on agribusiness.

Key research areas include climate resilience, regenerative agriculture, smart technologies and biomass energy. Projects are designed to have real‑world impact. For example, the GrainSupp tool – developed in partnership with local farmers, industry groups and international stakeholders – uses AI and blockchain technology to improve grain traceability.

Objectives

  1. Conduct high-quality research and produce evidence-based and industry-relevant research outputs
  2. Translate research findings to effectively engage with industry
  3. Nurture early-career researchers and develop their capacity to promote their research to gain external research incomes
  4. Strengthen existing partnerships with government agencies and organisations to attract funding for research projects
  5. Seek new partnerships with large and private organisations to attract funding for project-based research students

Goals

  1. Design an inclusive economic model for regional economic development
  2. Set up industry-co-founded higher-degree-by-research projects and recruit quality candidates
  3. Generate growth in research income
  4. Achieve an increase in research outputs in quality outlets
  5. Research engagement and impact
