Open access publishing agreements

Everything you need to know about open access publishing agreements.

Univeristy libraries have collectively negotiated open access agreements with a range of publishers through the Council of Australasian University Librarians. This means you can publish open access with eleven major publishers (and many others) without paying an article processing charge (APC).

The full searchable title list is available in the CAUL guide.

How to publish

When submitting your article you’ll need to:

  • use your Federation email (ending in @federation.edu.au)
  • consider that eligibility for publishing with an open access agreement is based on the acceptance date and not the submission date
  • include your ORCID in your submission
  • check the article types covered by each agreement before submitting
  • choose a Creative Commons license when prompted
  • check if the journal charges for colour figures or extra pages (these aren’t always covered by the agreement).
