Course overview
The UEE22020 Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) provides creative hands-on skills training and covers operational skills and knowledge such as electrical safety, Industry Standards and Regulations, identifying and selecting components, accessories, and materials, solving circuit problems, modern sustainable practices and much more, all in our state-of-the-art Building and Construction Training Centre while you learn from our teachers who know what it's like starting out in a trade.

The fees you pay will depend on your eligibility for a Victorian Government subsidised place under the Skills First Program. The indicative fees displayed below are estimates for the total course and may change depending on individual circumstances at enrolment.

Material fees
This covers things like tools, stationery, uniforms, textbooks, excursions and so on. Expect the cost to be around $145.
Other study costs
Material fees cover PPE required, excluding work boots. Students will be required to provide their own appropriate footwear.
Horsham Course: No materials fees applied
Ballarat (SMB) Course: materials fees applied; (Solar Box $120.00 plus Glasses and Glove Safety $25.00)
Other important information
If you need help managing your fee payments, you might be eligible for a direct debit payment plan. Students doing certificate-level TAFE courses can access payment plans for both tuition and materials fees. Diploma and advanced diploma students can access payment plans for materials fees only.
If you’re accessing government-subsidised training under the Skills First Program, doing this course might affect your ability to access future government-subsidised training.
If you’re eligible to enrol in a course under the Victorian Government Free TAFE initiative, the tuition would be free but you’d still have to pay the materials fee (if applicable).

- Our Mt Helen, SMB, Camp St and Gillies St campuses are located in Ballarat.
Contact hours
Ballarat (SMB) Course: Classes are held Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday from 8.30am to 4.30pm
Students will complete approximately 22 hours per week of on-campus study.
Approximately 4 hours per week of non-supervised and self-directed/independent learning.
Horsham: Classes are held Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday from 8.00am to 5.00pm; and Fridays 8.00 to 3.00 pm for 10 weeks.
Students will complete approximately 38 hours per week of on-campus study.
Approximately 4 hours per week of non-supervised and self-directed/independent learning.
Work integrated learning
Horsham: Industry placement of 2 weeks with local electrical contractors is strongly encouraged and intended to enhance the student learning experience.

APRETC Ballarat boasts the southern hemisphere’s first wind turbine training tower and APRETC Gippsland is located in the power generation heartland of the Latrobe Valley.
Entry requirements
For all TAFE applications, pre-training review questions and a literacy and numeracy review are part of the application process.
Entry will require applicants to be 16 years of age or have completed year 10. Applicants are required to complete a specialised maths test in addition to the literacy and numeracy review to be eligible for entry into this course.
