School of Medicine

The School of Medicine will offer a modern pathway designed to serve the communities that need it most. Learners will be immersed in hands-on clinical experience in the city and beyond, connected and supported from day one.

This is contemporary medical training, delivered differently. 

The School of Medicine, led by Professor Stephen Tobin, was established in partnership with NewMed Australia in 2026. Our goal? To train more doctors in and for regional communities – doctors who understand rural and First Nations health contexts – to help address Australia’s critical shortage of GPs.

We aim to deliver world-class medical training that prepares students for the reality of healthcare today, and to help aspiring doctors, career changers and regional students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.

The School is currently being assessed for accreditation by the Australian Medical Council.

Our NewMed partnership

Doctor of Medicine

Pending accreditation, our innovative NewMed model, unique to the School of Medicine, will immerse students in general practice and whole-person care through long-term community placement.

It'll combine small-group online learning with regular in-person intensives and a final year spent in hospitals. Students will build broad medical skills through continuous clinical experience and regular, tailored feedback.
