HISOC1002 Local History
This course provides an introduction to community, public and local history. Key concepts, approaches and different sources are explored. Students will evaluate several varieties of local and community history in their region and contrast these with elsewhere. Different historical sources ranging from family memory, to artifacts, to documentary sources are explored in terms of their historical significance. Students will also critically evaluate this range of different sources and apply their knowledge through an industry placement with a stakeholder organization. Students will have the opportunity to apply knowledge and skills acquired during this unit to research a locality or community of their choice.
