Vocational education and training (TAFE) fees

Learn about government-subsidised places, tuition fees and other expenses, and find out if you qualify for a fully funded course under the Free TAFE initiative.

Free TAFE

Many of our TAFE courses are now fully funded by the Victorian Government under the Free TAFE initiative. See the list of courses and find out if you can apply for one.

Government-subsidised and full-fee places

Your Vocational Education and Training (VET) tuition fee will be determined by your course and enrolment type:

  • government subsidised (with concession)
  • government subsidised (without concession)
  • full fee.

Subsidised place eligibilty

You could be eligible if:

  • you’re an Australian or New Zealand citizen (or permanent visa holder)
  • you live in Victoria (or a border region)
  • you haven’t started more than two subsidised VET courses in a year.

See the full eligibility criteria to find out.

If you’re eligible for a government-subsidised place and have a valid concession card, you may receive an 80% discount on your tuition fees (excluding diploma and advanced diploma enrolments). And if you’re Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander and eligible for a government-subsidised place, your tuition will be free.
