Apply for a paid Co-op placement

Learn how to use InPlace to view and apply for paid co-operative education placement opportunities.

When to apply for a placement

Co-op placements are usually undertaken from second year. Once you're enrolled, an InPlace account will be created for you. Keep an eye on your student email for the notification. You’ll be able to log in to InPlace with your student ID and usual Federation password. We recommend you start applying for positions as soon as possible. You might even be able to complete your placement earlier than it appears in your course structure. Contact your course coordinator to discuss options.

Before you apply

Have your resume and cover letter ready to go before you start your application.

How to apply for a placement

Log in to InPlace with your student ID and usual Federation password.

Select 'Available' from the menu and view positions that align with your study area. Read the descriptions carefully and open any downloads included. You'll find application instructions at the bottom of the screen.

Not sure what to choose? All placements are from trusted industry partners – they have our tick of approval. So all you need to do is keep an open mind and think about what you’d like to get out of the experience. Remember, you can apply for as many co-op placements as you like.

If you're already employed in an industry that relates to your study area, you might be able to convert your existing employment into a placement. Email cooperativeplacement@federation.edu.au if you'd like to discuss this.

Select the 'Apply Now' button in the bottom right-hand corner. If it's greyed out, you can't apply for this position.

Upload your resume and cover letter, then select 'Submit Application'.

Once you've submitted your application, it will appear under 'Available'. Check InPlace regularly to view the status of your application.
