Overdue fees
Find out how to check your account balance and what happens if you don't pay your fees by the invoice due date.
You must pay any fees you owe by the invoice due date. If you're deferring your tuition or amenities fees with a HELP loan, you may not have to pay anything upfront, but make sure you read your invoice carefully to see whether this applies to you. You can also check your account balance in my Student Centre by logging in, selecting 'Campus Finances', then selecting 'Account Balance'.
What happens if I don't pay my fees?
What does this mean for me?
Your CSP fees are subsidised by the Australian Government. The amount shown on your invoice is your student contribution – the part you have to pay. You can opt to either pay this upfront or defer the fee with a HECS-HELP loan.
If you opt to pay upfront (or you forget to apply for HECS-HELP) and then you miss the invoice deadline (census date), we're required (under the Higher Education Support Act 2003) to cancel your CSP enrolment for the semester. There's no academic or financial penalty for the cancelled semester.
If you defer your student contribution with a HECS-HELP loan, we can't accept any payments from you.
You can't get an extension for your student contribution payment. This is a legislative requirement that applies to all CSP students with no exceptions.
Your tuition fee is shown on your invoice. You can opt to either pay it upfront or defer the fee with a FEE-HELP loan (if you're eligible).
If you opt to pay upfront (or you forget to apply for FEE-HELP) and then you miss the invoice deadline (census date), we may cancel your enrolment for the semester.
If you defer your fee with a FEE-HELP loan, we can't accept any payments from you.
All tuition fee payments are due by the invoice due date (semester census date). If you don't pay, we'll place a hold on your account and you won't be able to access grades, transcripts or testamurs or enrol in extra units. We may also cancel your COE (Confirmation of Enrolment) and advise the Department of Home Affairs (DHA).
Reminder emails and overdue notices will be sent to your student email account.
Negative Service Indicator (NSI)
If you owe money to Federation, you can get a Negative Service Indicator (NSI). This applies to overdue:
- fees or charges payable under Statute 9.1 Fees and Charges
- late enrolment or enrolment amendment fees
- library fines or book replacement charges
- residential fees
- student loans
- fines or compensation orders issued by the Student Discipline Committee.
A student with an NSI can't:
- enrol or re-enrol
- access assessment results
- graduate or receive a University award
- request an academic transcript
- use library services
- use computer services.
If you have an NSI, you can restore your student rights and access by paying the outstanding amount.
