Census dates

The census date is the deadline by which your enrolment and fees must be finalised.

Census dates are key deadlines in your study calendar. Each unit has its own census date, which is the last day you can withdraw without financial or academic penalty. You also need to pay any fees owed and organise HELP or VET Student Loans before the relevant census date.

What happens if I miss the census date?

If you withdraw from a unit after census date, you'll be charged the tuition or student contribution fee and may not be eligible for a refund or loan adjustment. The unit will also remain on your academic record with a 'withdraw' grade applied.

Higher education census dates

If you're eligible for a HELP loan, the census date is the last day you can:

It's also the day you become liable for any HELP debts you've organised. You'll find the census date of each semester under important dates.

Late Summer Semester (Term Code 2602): 20 January
Early Semester 1 (Term Code 2608): 28 February
Semester 1 (Term Code 2605): 31 March
Winter Semester (Term Code 2615): 15 May
Early Semester 2 (Term Code 2616): 28 July
Semester 2 (Term Code 2620): 15 August

VET student loan census dates

VET student loan census dates can't be set any earlier than 20% of the way through the duration of the unit and can't be extended. Tuition fee payment deadlines will be reasonably distributed throughout your course, according to the census dates.

If you're eligible for a VET Student Loan, the census date for a unit is the last day you can:

You'll find census dates and tuition fees for your enrolled units in your VET Student Loan Fee Notices, which are emailed to your personal email address before each census date and can be accessed online in my Student Centre.
