Wondering what we do with the feedback we receive from students? Here are some of the tangible improvements we've made at Federation using your ideas.

We hear you

You know what works – and what doesn’t. That’s why we ask for your input through surveys, competitions, discussion groups and student representation on committees and boards. And we don’t just collect feedback – we use it. Your ideas help us understand what needs improving, updating or changing to make the uni experience better.

What we've done

What you said:

Assessment deadlines aren't consistent. One might be 9 am, another could be 5 pm and another 11.59 pm.

What we did:

Made nearly all assessment time deadlines consistent – 11.59 pm. (This won’t apply to online timed tests, assessments in practical settings and some other scenarios.)

Better collaboration between students and staff is important for decisions that impact students.

What we did:

Created our Students as Partners program to encourage students to get involved in the University's decision-making and planning processes.

What you said:

Some of the Moodle shells for my classes are confusing as they are set up in different ways to each other.

What we did:

Improved consistency across Moodle templates.

What you said:

Developing academic skills and getting support when it is necessary is especially important to my study.

What we did:

Encouraged students access our Learning Skills Advisors and created the Writing Space (drop-in assessment help).

More activities during O week.

What we did:

Planned more free events for future Orientations, plus extra on-campus activities at the start of each semester.

What you said:

Make students more aware of career services and resources so they can be accessed easier.

What we did:

Created an online Careers Resource Hub that all students can access for free, and put up posters around our campuses to promote our careers services.

Too many assessments and essays in a short period of time.

What we did:

Worked with course teams to determine the best grouping of assignments across year levels and to spread assessments over the semester.

What you said:

I would love to see more recreational and group activities.

What we did:

Encouraged student clubs to organise more events and expanded our sport and recreation activity programs.
