Research integrity
Learn about our approach to research integrity and how responsible, ethical and transparent research is supported and upheld at Federation.
At Federation, we’re committed to responsible, ethical and transparent research practices because trust in research starts with integrity. This isn’t just about policies – it’s the foundation of honest, respectful and accountable research. Responsible research protects participants, maintains public confidence and improves research outcomes.
How we support research integrity
We follow the principles set out in the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research (2018) (PDF 215 KB). This is the national framework for ensuring research is conducted responsibly and with integrity. It includes:
- managing research data and materials
- publishing and sharing findings with proper authorship
- conducting effective peer review
- identifying and managing conflicts of interest.
Suspected breaches of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research must be reported.
Contact us to report a potential breach of the Code. You can:
- call us on (03) 8768 5542
- email us at research.integrity@federation.edu.au
- lodge a concern with the Research Integrity Office via the online form.
Provide as much information as possible about your concern, and include supporting evidence if applicable. You can remain anonymous, but doing so might limit our assessment, and we won't be able to give you any feedback or updates.
Read our Research Integrity and Misconduct Procedure to learn more.
Our research integrity advisors are experienced researchers who have been trained to foster responsible research conduct and provide impartial advice about potential breaches of the Code. They don't investigate potential breaches, but they are able to help Federation researchers and students find support, decide whether to submit formal concerns and explore alternative options as needed. If you'd like to know more about what our research integrity advisors do, you can download the position description (PDF 142 KB).
