Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre (APRETC)

We're training the renewable energy workforce of the future. Explore our accredited courses and find out more about renewable energy research and partnership opportunities

Global Wind Organisation (GWO) accredited

APRETC is a hub for renewable energy training, education and research based in regional Victoria, with reach across Australia and the Asia Pacific.

With Global Wind Organisation (GWO) accredited courses available, we also  support learning and innovation across, offshore and onshore wind, hydrogen, geothermal, solar and battery storage, and energy system infrastructure. We’re focused on digital innovation - preparing you for the future of energy.

We deliver expertise in environment and sustainability, regional futures and Traditional Custodian engagement to support an inclusive energy transition.

APRETC Ballarat

APRETC Ballarat is the nation’s specialist wind industry training centre and home to the southern hemisphere’s first wind turbine training tower, a 23-metre replica that gives students authentic at-heights turbine experience. Our expert trainers are building the skilled workforce needed for Australia’s rapidly expanding wind sector. We're working closely with industry to fast track the pipeline of future wind turbine technicians with new accredited wind training programs in development.

APRETC Gippsland

APRETC Gippsland offers renewable energy training, education and research. We’re located in the power generation heartland of the Latrobe Valley, and adjacent to Australia’s first offshore wind zone. From here we’re well placed to lead the transition to new energy.

APRETC in action

Courses

We're shaping the next generation of renewable energy talent. Through University, TAFE, VETDSS, taster programs, and the Girls in STEM program at Ballarat Tech School, we're creating clear and inspiring pathways into the new energy workforce.

By working closely with industry through our Co-op model, we spark curiosity early and support learners as they move into specialised training.

This year, we’ve welcomed our first all-female cohort into Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) highlighting the future of a more diverse and inclusive renewable energy sector.

Let's meet your training needs

We offer technical, safety and blade repair training, and can customise courses to suit your needs. Email apretc@federation.edu.au if you'd like to discuss the options.

Partnerships

Partnerships are at the heart of what we do. By working with industry, we’ll provide the right training, education and experience to meet future workforce needs. Our Co-op courses are co-designed, co-developed and co-delivered, which means students will graduate with relevant, real-world work skills.

Shape the future of renewable energy training

The future of APRETC

With a further $6 million in Victorian Government funding, Stage 2 of APRETC at Ballarat is nearing completion and will expand training capability in 2027 with a wind turbine nacelle and a specialist training centre.

In Gippsland, Stage 2 will support the growth of hydrogen, including fuel cell and laboratory-based training facilities. Specialised engineering programs and short courses may be implemented.
