Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre (APRETC)

We're training the renewable energy workforce of the future. Explore our Global Wind Organisation (GWO) accredited training centre and find out more about renewable energy research and partnership opportunities

Global Wind Organisation (GWO) accredited

The Asia Pacific Renewable Energy Training Centre (APRETC) has partnered with industry to become a central hub for renewable energy training, education and research across regional Victoria. We deliver expertise in environment and sustainability, social transition, regional futures and Traditional Custodian engagement to support a responsible and inclusive energy transition.

As a Global Wind Organisation (GWO) accredited training centre, we support learning and innovation across, offshore and onshore wind, hydrogen and fuel-cell technologies, geothermal, solar and battery storage, grid, transmission and energy system infrastructure. We’re also focused on digital, data and innovation - preparing you for the future of energy.

APRETC Ballarat

APRETC Ballarat is the nation’s first specialist wind industry training centre, home to the southern hemisphere’s first wind turbine training tower, a 23‑metre‑high replica that gives students real, at-heights turbine experience. Our expert trainers are building the skilled workforce needed for Australia’s rapidly expanding wind sector. We're working closely with industry to fast‑track the pipeline of future wind turbine technicians with new accredited wind training programs in development.

APRETC Gippsland

APRETC Gippsland offers renewable energy training, education and research. Located in the power generation heartland of the Latrobe Valley, and adjacent to Australia’s first offshore wind zone, APRETC Gippsland is well placed to lead the transition.

Courses

We're shaping the next generation of renewable energy talent. Through TAFE, VETDSS, taster programs, and the Girls in STEM program at Ballarat Tech School, we're creating clear and inspiring pathways into the clean energy workforce. By working closely with industry through our Co-op model, we spark curiosity early and support learners as they move into specialised training.

In 2026, we'll support our first all female cohort through the Certificate II in Electrotechnology (Career Start) highlighting the future of a more diverse and inclusive renewable energy sector.

Let's meet your training needs

We offer technical, safety and blade repair training, and we can customise courses to suit your needs. Email apretc@federation.edu.au if you'd like to discuss the options.

Partnerships

We're collaborating with industry partners to reskill the local workforce, create jobs for Victoria and accelerate innovation in research. Our Co-op courses are co-designed, co-developed and co-delivered  – which means students will graduate with relevant, real-world work skills.

Shape the future of renewable energy training

Partnerships are at the heart of what we do. We work with:

The future of APRETC

With a further $6 million in Victorian Government funding, Stage 2 of APRETC at Ballarat is nearing completion and will expand training capability in 2027 with a wind turbine nacelle and a specialist training centre.

In Gippsland, Stage 2 will support the growth of hydrogen, including fuel cell and laboratory-based training facilities. Specialised engineering programs and short courses may be implemented.
