Fedliving application FAQs
Applications open every August for the following year. It’s best to apply early so you don’t miss out.
Yes. You can list your preferences in your application and you’ll be offered the highest option that’s available.
Use an email you check often and won’t lose access to because Fedliving will send you important updates.
We'll send you an offer via email after we receive and process your application.
We accept students from other universities, as long as they’re studying full‑time. Download the Fedliving residences admissions and allocation criteria (PDF 188 KB) if you'd like more info.
Yes – just fill out the expression of interest form.
You must accept your offer via the Fedliving Portal by the deadline listed in the offer email. Use the username and password from your application, and make sure you pay the acceptance fee.
If you've changed your mind about living on res, please email fedliving@federation.edu.au so we can cancel your application.
We'll probably try to contact you, but if we can't get in touch, your offer might be cancelled and you may need to reapply.
No, deferrals aren’t available. If your study plans change, let us know and reapply when you're ready.
Living on res FAQs
Check-in day is usually a few days before Orientation – we’ll email you all the details.
Yes. If your course starts early or you're travelling on a particular date, you can book an early arrival through the Fedliving portal (extra fees apply).

Mt Helen Campus
You need a permit to park in the residential car park. Buy one online for $150 per academic year.
Camp St Campus
You need a permit to park in the residential car park (ground floor of the New North building). Buy one via the Fedliving portal for $175 per academic year.
Victoria Street
There are some carparks available at the back of the residence, but you don't need a permit to park there.
Gippsland Campus
Free parking is available across the campus (but make sure you're not in a permit zone).
Berwick Campus
You need a permit to park in the residential car park (Car Park C). Buy one online for $150 per academic year.
If you get locked out of your room, visit the Fedliving office during office hours or call after-hours support. If you lose your swipe card or keys, let the office know asap. You may be charged for lockouts and lost swipe cards.
Make sure your full name and residence details are on your mail. You’ll get an email when a package arrives, and you can pick it up from the Fedliving Office with your student ID.

You can have day visitors any time. If you want someone to stay overnight, you must submit a guest pass request through the Fedliving portal. Guests can only stay for one night and must sleep in your room (not common areas). You can't have someone stay if you're away, or during periods of SWOT VAC or exams. You can request up to ten guest passes per year.
Short-term accommodation FAQs
Yes. Short‑term accommodation is available for placement students at our Ballarat, Gippsland and Berwick campuses.
Bedding and linen are included. Cleaning might also be provided – this depends on how long you stay.
Yes – if there’s space. Fedliving hosts school groups, sports teams and other groups throughout the year.
