PAMTC1002 CRITICAL STUDIES IN MUSIC THEATRE 2

Students will study the development of the Performing Arts in Australia from colonial times to the present, with particular reference to music theatre. The course will ask students to identify cultural myths at work in society as expressed in theatre. They are asked to consider their own place as self-reflexive artists, located in Australia, in a globalised world. Students will investigate the structure and development of the Australian Performing Arts industry and note significant companies, venues, funding bodies etc. Students are asked to develop a critical language around the performance of music theatre and to apply this to live performance and to their own practice.
