NURBN3106 Care of People with Chronic Conditions

Care of People with Chronic Conditions unit is a 15-credit point course that delves into the complexities of managing chronic conditions, emphasising their profound impact on individuals, groups, and communities in Australia. This unit equips nursing students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to provide high-quality, evidence-based, and person-centred care to people living with chronic illnesses from a strengths-based nursing perspective. Students will critically evaluate the multifaceted impact of chronic conditions. They will explore how chronic diseases affect not only the physical health of individuals but also their psychological well-being, social interactions, and economic status. By understanding these broader impacts, students will appreciate the importance of a holistic approach to care that addresses the diverse needs of patients. The unit also emphasises the identification and utilisation of chronic disease resources. Students will learn about various resources available to support people with chronic conditions, including community programs, support groups, and healthcare services. Additionally, the role of interprofessional teams is explored in depth, highlighting how collaboration among healthcare professionals enhances patient outcomes. Finally, students will apply evidence-based and person-centred care practices in the management of chronic illnesses. They will be trained to incorporate the latest research findings and best practices into their care strategies, ensuring that interventions are both effective and tailored to the individual needs of patients.

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee

A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.

The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).

2025 student contribution amount: $578

2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $578

* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.

Clinical Psychology & Professional Pathways

For Clinical Psychology & Professional Pathways bands, the student contribution amount is determined by the accredited course. Visit our CSP page for further information, including a list of accredited courses. Students not studying in an accredited course will pay the fees listed above.
