This unit focuses on the interconnectedness of these areas, providing students with an understanding of how public health initiatives and health promotion strategies contribute to improving population health outcomes. Students will explore the roles of nurses as advocates and change agents, with a particular emphasis on their contribution to health promotion and quality improvement in diverse healthcare settings from a strengths-based nursing perspective. Additionally, the unit covers nursing roles across the continuum of care, from primary to tertiary healthcare, within the Australian healthcare system. By examining key theories and approaches that underpin health promotion and patient education, students will gain the analytical skills needed to apply these frameworks in practice. Through case studies, practical examples, and critical discussions, the unit prepares students to engage in public health and health promotion efforts aimed at addressing health disparities and improving patient well-being. By the end of the unit, students will be equipped to take an active role in promoting health at both individual and community levels.
Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.
The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).
2025 student contribution amount: $578
2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $578
* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.
