LITCI2200 Modern Texts
This course examines two of the most significant and innovative literary and cultural movements of the twentieth century: modernism and postmodernism. Each movement signalled a significant break with past traditions, world views and values: in their film, literature, and art, modernism and postmodernism challenged society to rethink the nature of language, representation, and reality. This course examines the approaches to form, narrative, and style specific to modernism and postmodernism as well as the ways in which they relate to their broader historical, social, and cultural contexts.
