HCPAR5021 Community, Paramedic Culture and Practice 1

This unit, in conjunction with HCPAR5001 (Clinical Paramedicine 1) and HCPAR5011 Paramedic Clinical Diagnostics 1) aims to encourage students to think critically about the many aspects of community health and the role that the paramedic plays in this. Students will examine how social and cultural factors shape determinants of health and how this understanding informs effective planning and delivery of pre-hospital services. Through critical analysis, students investigate the key factors that influence the provision of safe, timely and high-quality pre-hospital care in Australia. The unit also examines how research engagement and quality improvement activities contribute to strengthening paramedicine practice and improving patient outcomes. Students will apply evidence to support reflective practice and to identify strategies for enhancing their own clinical performance. Emphasis is placed on culturally safe communication and care, including strategies to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and CALD patients and communities. Aligned with the Professional Capabilities for Registered Paramedics, students will develop the knowledge and skills required to guide professional behaviour, ethical decision-making and practice standards in pre-hospital settings.
