HCPAR5011 Paramedic Clinical Diagnostics I

This unit equips students with the knowledge and skills required to assess and manage pre-hospital medical emergencies across a range of common and time-critical presentations. Learners will apply structured clinical reasoning to cardiac, respiratory, neurological, and abdominal emergencies, ensuring care is delivered in line with current Clinical Practice Guidelines. Students will also develop capability to recognise, assess, and manage mental health presentations in the pre-hospital environment. This includes applying the Mental Health Act (2023) to guide lawful and ethical decision-making, using a Mental Health Assessment tool to support clinical judgements, and providing appropriate interventions consistent with both the Mental Health Act (2023) and Clinical Practice Guidelines. The unit emphasises safe and effective communication and coordination with relevant emergency services when caring for mentally unwell patients, ensuring that legal and ethical responsibilities are met while maintaining professional, patient-centred care.
