FLMOL1001 AUSTRALIAN CINEMA
This course provides an introduction to Australian cinema from the early twentieth century to the twenty-first century. Topics to be explored include early cinema, international filmmaking in Australia, the film industry¿s revival in the 1970s, market-driven entertainment and recent developments. Screen texts to be studied include historical examples, high-profile productions and other significant works. Through analysing films and relevant scholarship, the course explores what Australian cinema has been and is. Screen works are examined in themselves and in relation to their contexts. Themes of ethnicity, class and gender are addressed through screen examples. The course fosters understanding of Australia¿s relationship to international screen production by presenting an overview that includes regional and urban stories, government-funded productions and works targeted at various audiences.
Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
