Professor Reihana Mohideen combines engineering expertise with leadership in social inclusion and the energy transition. 

An electrical engineer specialising in renewable energy and its social impacts, she focuses on ensuring that the benefits of the energy transition are shared across communities. Her research takes a socio-technical approach, examining energy technologies alongside their social, economic and institutional outcomes. 

Her work includes socio-technical modelling of distributed energy resources and microgrids to build community resilience, incorporating technology transfer and know-how to support local economic development and measurable health and social inclusion outcomes. 

Reihana has more than a decade of international development experience, including extensive engagement with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in research, project design and policy across Asia. Her work spans hydropower, solar, distributed and mini-grid systems, energy access and the social implications of energy technologies. 

Before joining APRETC, Reihana held leadership and research roles at the University of Melbourne, including Principal Advisor on Sociotechnical Systems and Just Energy Transitions at the Nossal Institute for Global Health; Associate Dean, Diversity and Inclusion, in the Faculty of Engineering; and Sociotechnical Lead in the Power and Energy Systems research group. She led research on just energy transitions for ADB programmes in South and Southeast Asia. 

Reihana chairs the IEEE SSIT Gender Engagement and Social Inclusion Technical Committee and the IEEE Standards Gender Engagement and Social Inclusion Working Group. She is the author of Women and the Energy Revolution, which examines the role women play in shaping the future of the energy sector.
