Biography
Julie is an English specialist working in the Institute of Education, Arts & Community. She joined Federation University Australia in 2012, first working in the areas of general English for migrants and refugees and adult literacy and numeracy for domestic students. From 2014 to 2019 she coordinated the English and Academic Preparation (EAP) Course.
Julie has taught in Federation University's Enabling Program, Federation Access Studies (FAST) since 2014, developing the Academic Writing curriculum. Julie brings her expertise in writing and the writing process to her classes, with the goal of helping her students build their confidence and skills in writing to provide a strong foundation for their future study and career goals.
Julie joined the team delivering linguistics and literacy units in the Master of Specialist Teaching in 2021, has worked in a range of writing units in the Bachelor of Arts since 2022, and began coordinating English Curriculum units in Initial Teacher Education (Secondary) in 2025.

Areas of expertise
Julie is an early career researcher with a wide range of experience relating to various aspects of the English language and teaching. Her areas of expertise include English language teaching to both native and non-native speakers, as well as teaching and writing in professional, academic and creative contexts.
Julie commenced PhD studies with Federation University in 2020. Her project is titled “‘Breathed through silver’: A creative and stylistic exploration of the language of secondary world fantasy” and will use an interdisciplinary approach to practice-led research, combining the fields of linguistics (stylistics), literature and creative writing.
