Biography
Dr Jill Orr’s work centres on issues of the psycho-social and environmental, where she draws on land and identities as they are shaped in, on and with the environment, be it country or urban locales. Jill grapples with the balance and discord that exists at the heart of relations between the human spirit, art and nature.
The Promised Land was performed for the inaugural Venice International Performance Art Week in 2012. An OZCO Fellowship enabled the creation of Antipodean Epic for the Mildura Palimpsest Biennale #10, the Lorne Sculpture Biennale and the Belo Horizonte Biennale, Brazil. In 2018, BOAA commissioned the performance installation Detritus Springs, and in 2019 Laundry was performed for the inaugural Abbottsford Convent Magdalen Laundries opening. Dark Night was commissioned for the Dance Massive Program a few weeks later.
In 2020, Jill’s Detritus Springs large-scale photographic works were exhibited at This is No Fantasy Gallery, Gertrude St, Fitzroy.
