Biography
Anthony Pearce is a lecturer in teacher education with expertise in Vocational Education and Training (VET) and secondary teaching. He has a particular interest in supporting students in alternative and flexible learning environments, including community-based programs and vocational pathways designed for young people experiencing barriers to education.
Anthony left school in Year 10 and worked in 52 different jobs before training as an English teacher. This background has informed his specialisation in working with students at risk of disengaging from education, supported by extensive professional experience across primary, secondary, vocational and tertiary education sectors.
His teaching and research are grounded in student-centred approaches that prioritise equity, engagement and belonging for learners whose educational experiences sit outside traditional schooling.
He is currently undertaking a doctoral research project that investigates teaching and learning in programs with applied learning pedagogical traditions, and the ways teaching practices and relationships are shaped within school and community contexts.
When he is not teaching or researching, Anthony can be found tinkering with his beehives and motorcycles, or mountain biking with his four sons.
