WestVic Academy of Sport

The WestVic Academy of Sport and Federation University have joined forces to give talented young athletes the support they need to grow, compete and thrive.
Based in our Health and Sports Precinct at Mt Helen Campus, the Academy offers high-level coaching, education and sport services to regional high school students. This means aspiring athletes don't have to travel long distances or relocate to Melbourne to build their skills.

Experienced coaches (who have coached at a state level or higher) lead elite‑standard, sport‑specific skills sessions. Training plans will depend on the sport – sessions are tailored to meet the technical and tactical demands of that discipline.
Under the supervision of qualified academics, postgraduate Federation students assess athletes' posture, range of movement, flexibility, muscle control and joint and nerve function. Screening results are then used to inform individual strength and conditioning programs.
Strength and conditioning sessions focus on injury prevention and performance enhancement. Athletes receive tailored programs, developed and run by Federation University senior lecturers and students, that are designed to improve technique, movement quality and overall physical capability.
The wellbeing network connects athletes with specialists such as nutritionists, sport psychologists and female-specific support. The partner health professionals provide discounted services to help with injury prevention, athlete wellbeing and management.
Athletes are invited to regular info sessions to learn about injury prevention, nutrition, sports integrity and sport psychology. They also get complimentary tickets to the Academy's end-of-year dinner at the North Ballarat Sports Club.
