Academic integrity, respect and your first assessment: what you need to know

22 June 2026 · 3 min read
All commencing students must complete two mandatory Moodle modules before submitting their first assessment: the Academic Integrity Module (AIM) and Respect@Fed: Our Communities.

We know there’s a lot to take in when you start studying - new classes, new systems, new people and a growing to-do list. Before you focus on learning everyone’s name, take some time to complete these two modules.

Not only are they mandatory, they’ll help you understand what’s expected as a Federation student, where to find support and how to get your studies off to a confident start.

Both modules are already available in Moodle and you’ve been automatically enrolled.

So, what are the modules about?

Academic Integrity Module (AIM)

AIM helps you understand what’s expected when it comes to studying, assessments and using sources correctly.

It covers topics like:

  • plagiarism and collusion
  • using AI tools appropriately
  • referencing and academic honesty
  • where to get support if you’re unsure.

The goal is to help you feel confident submitting your work and avoid accidental academic misconduct.

Respect@Fed: Our Communities

This module focuses on creating a safe, respectful and inclusive university community.

It explores topics including:

  • respectful behaviour
  • equality and inclusion
  • discrimination and harassment
  • consent and healthy communication
  • support services available to students.

You’ll also learn about concepts like FRIES, tea and cake - memorable ways to understand consent, boundaries and respectful relationships.

Why do I need to complete them?

These modules are designed to set you up for success early in your studies.

They help you understand:

  • how to study with integrity
  • what respectful behaviour looks like at university
  • where to go for help and support
  • your responsibilities as part of the Federation community.

They also support a safer, more inclusive learning environment for everyone.

When should I complete them?

Complete both modules in Moodle before your first assessment is due.
We strongly recommend completing them as early as possible.

Leaving them until the last minute can add unnecessary stress during busy assessment periods.

As a guide, Respect@Fed: Our Communities takes about 30 minutes to complete, while AIM takes around two hours. Setting aside time now will help you stay on track and focus on your assessments later.

Where do I find them?

Log into Moodle and look for:

  • Academic Integrity Module (AIM)
  • Respect@Fed: Our Communities

Start your mandatory modules now and get set up for a confident start to semester.
