Federation University jumps ahead in Sustainable Impact ratings
Federation University Australia has been rated among the top 30 universities globally for its work in improving community health outcomes, as part of the latest Times Higher Education University Impact Ratings.
The ratings measure 1603 universities’ contribution to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), highlighting their commitment to addressing critical global challenges, including environmental sustainability, social inclusion, economic growth and partnerships.
This year, Federation achieved an overall score of 88.7 out of 100, up from 82.8 in 2025, reflecting the university’s deep commitment to community and industry partnership, research excellence and access to education for all.
Federation’s overall rating places it in the top 101-200 universities worldwide, a significant rise from last year’s 201–300 band.
The university recorded standout results across multiple SDGs and is now rated:
- 21st globally for SDG 3: Good Health and Wellbeing
Federation’s industry-relevant health education and impactful research are reflected in its strong graduate outcomes and partnerships with health services. In 2024, students studying in the health field contributed more than half a million hours of placement to local health organisations.
- 61st globally for SDG 17: Partnership for the goals
The partnership-driven Co-operative Education Model embeds industry collaboration into every aspect of learning, teaching and research at Federation to deliver real-world outcomes for students, employers and communities.
- 66th globally for SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities
Inclusion is at the heart of Federation University, as a leader in equity with the highest proportion of students who are first in their family to attend university. Through scholarships, education pathways and paid placements, Federation is increasing access to education for all members of the communities it serves.
- 76th globally for SDG 5: Gender Equality
This result recognises Federation’s commitment to creating pathways for women and first-generation students to thrive, with women representing more than 67 per cent of the 2024 higher education graduating cohort. That year, the university undertook the largest and most comprehensive national study of women living in Australia's rural, regional, and remote areas, uncovering significant perceptions of gender inequality.
Federation’s work in advancing the goals – in partnership with our students, staff, industry, government and communities – is outlined in the 2024 Sustainability Impact Report.
