Berwick graduates celebrate success

Berwick graduate speaker Isha celebrates.
More than 340 students from Federation University Australia’s Berwick campus will celebrate their education milestones at graduation ceremonies this week.
Among them is student Isha who decided to study a Bachelor of Information Technology after realising the value of devices in people’s everyday lives during the coronavirus pandemic.
“Initially, I thought to be an IT person you had to be a computer ‘nerd’ doing coding, but the course structure was quite impressive with the first year covering all the basics and then you can choose the way you want to go in IT,” Isha said.
Isha said she gained an ‘edge’ in stepping into a professional career after completing a paid co-op placement with Federation University’s IT team from June to November 2024 and going on to gain casual employment with the University.
The co-operative education model is being rolled out across the University to get students work and world ready through industry placements that are embedded in their degrees.
“My co-op placement gave me hands-on experience and the opportunity to observe recent industry trends and see the results of my hard work in front of my eyes,” Isha said.
“That made me clear about what I want to pursue in the next five years in the education or technology industries and also get a taste of work-life balance.”
Isha will deliver a graduation address to her peers during the ceremony at Bunjil Place and said graduating gave her a strong sense of accomplishment.
“It gives you an experience where you feel like you have pushed the boundaries, where gaining skills and meeting new people can literally change the course of your life. Going to uni has drastically expanded my knowledge and confidence.”
Federation University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley said he was incredibly proud of this month’s graduates, many of whom juggle study, work, health and caring responsibilities.
“I extend heartfelt congratulations to all of our graduates and encourage each student to take a moment to reflect on their remarkable achievements, surrounded by family and friends,” Professor Bentley said.
“We are proud to celebrate this milestone with our graduates and look forward to seeing them apply their knowledge, skills, and passion as they make a positive impact in their communities.”
More than 1300 graduates across the University’s campuses will mark the academic milestone in front of family, friends and classmates in March.
Berwick Graduation ceremonies will be held at Bunjil Place, Narre Warren on Wednesday 26 March.
