More than 760 students from Federation University Australia’s Ballarat campuses will celebrate their education milestones at graduation ceremonies this week.

Among them is University Medal recipient Ella Heatherington who has been acknowledged for consistently enriching the learning environment for her peers and pursuing excellence in critical thinking throughout her Bachelor of Arts.

“The Bachelor of Arts is a good option because you do get to try so many different subjects. So even if you’re not sure exactly where you want to go with your studies, you get to try a bit of history, a bit of sociology, a bit of literature,” she said.

A Daylesford local, 23-year-old, Ella was inspired daily by her teachers and fellow students, stating “there’s so many people at Federation who love what they do, they are passionate about poetry, literature and media and screen studies. It’s a lot of fun to enter those classrooms.”

Ella is planning to have a well-earned break after graduation, before considering taking up a honours degree.

Federation University’s Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Duncan Bentley said outstanding academic skills and generosity towards others made Ella an ideal mentor to her peers and he was incredibly proud of all graduates celebrating this month.

“I extend heartfelt congratulations to all of our graduates and encourage each student to take a moment to reflect on their remarkable achievements, surrounded by family and friends,” Professor Bentley said.

“We are proud to celebrate this milestone with our graduates and look forward to seeing them apply their knowledge, skills, and passion as they make a positive impact in their communities.”

More than 1300 graduates across the University’s campuses will mark the academic milestone in front of family, friends and classmates in March.

Hannah McGuire will be posthumously awarded a certificate for the Bachelor of Education (Primary), at 10.30am on Wednesday, 19 March.

Graduation ceremonies will be held at Founders Theatre, Mt Helen Campus on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 March.
