WELSI1002 RURAL AUSTRALIA

This course explores the concept of `community¿ and different models of community work theory in regional and rural Australia. The course promotes understanding of the links between community work as direct practice, community capacity building, social inclusion and civil society, models and techniques of social planning, action research and community work. Other themes includes Social action and advocacy in the community work setting, cultural competence in community work as a form of practice and ethical and practice dilemmas of working with communities. Skill development in the course focuses on engagement with communities, identification and contact with stakeholders within communities, working with community based committees, using the media, planning and running community meetings, developing an organisation, using research methods in community work, running small projects, legal issues in community work, and closure and community work.

Commonwealth supported place (CSP)

A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
