PAMTA1001 ACTING AND MUSIC THEATRE PRACTICE 1
"This course is divided into two strands: Acting: The Acting strand is designed to open creative pathways in music theatre performers whilst providing them with an understanding of basic acting processes. It examines foundational performance elements. Each element becomes the focus for intense studio-based exercises that allow students to experience dimensions of performance and to learn about those experiences. Exercises are graded from early improvisational work to more structured activities, where scenic features become the focus of examination. Music Theatre Practice: Music Theatre Practice is the component of the course where students explore, in a practice-based way, how basic rehearsal processes evolve into performance. Specifically, this Course asks students to consider integrating these core processes into the rehearsal and performance of historical Music Theatre content. This will culminate in small studio-based performance. It is expected that students integrate knowledge, skills and values gained in other skills classes into these performances where and as required. Workshops will include scenes, songs and dances from Musical Theatre focussing on musicals utilising various styles. A broad range of historical genres will be studied. The content studied will address spatial awareness, linear and non-linear forms and characterisation within the stylistic choices of the musical as a form. The workshop pieces will be rehearsed and eventually performed to an in-house audience. A strong focus will be on collaborative skills such as song and dance, acting in song, physical characterisation in music theatre and the acting requirements of various choreographic styles. "
Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.
The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).
2025 student contribution amount: $1,164
2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $997
* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.
