PAATA1001 ACTING AND THEATRE PRACTICE 1

"This course is divided into two strands: Acting: The commencement of training grounds the emerging actor in activities designed to open the creative pathways of the developing artist. During this initial semester students will explore the foundational skills of the actor's craft by focussing on the basic elements of performance. Student actors will be taught techniques that explore personal connection with material in the studio setting. Some attention will also be given to developing practical strategies for negotiating rehearsals. Students will also be called upon to study the relation between rehearsal and performance. Theatre Practice: In the Theatre Practice component of the course students explore, in a practice-based way, how acting processes evolve into performance. Students will participate in a variety of projects that culminate in small studio-based showings of performance work. This performance component requires students to integrate acting, voice, dance and movement skills from skills-based classes in the Acting Program. It also encourages links between process-based work and performative outcomes. "
