NURBN3104 Management of Deteriorating Patient

This unit prepares students to deliver safe, person-centred care to patients experiencing complex and life-threatening conditions in high-acuity settings. Students will build advanced knowledge of critical illness pathophysiology, develop skills in interpreting clinical assessments, and apply evidence-based strategies to manage acute deterioration. Through clinical laboratory sessions and 160 hours of supervised clinical placement, students will consolidate their skills, ensuring quality and safety in acute care, alongside ethical, culturally safe, and strengths-based nursing practices. The unit also supports the development of reflective practice, effective communication, teamwork, and self-care strategies to foster resilience and ongoing professional growth.
