NURBN3102 Care of Children and Adolescents

This unit prepares students to deliver safe, compassionate, and developmentally appropriate care to infants, children, adolescents, and their families. Emphasis is placed on the nurse¿s role in recognising normal and abnormal developmental milestones and applying age-appropriate, evidence-based interventions in paediatric care. Students will explore principles of family-centred and strengths-based care, with a focus on engaging families as partners to support the health and wellbeing of children across a range of clinical and community settings. The unit highlights the physical, emotional, and social needs of younger populations and guides students in creating holistic care plans that are responsive to each child¿s stage of development. Students will also develop practical skills through case studies and simulated scenarios and examine strategies for health promotion and illness prevention tailored to children and families. By the end of the unit, students will be equipped to advocate for and deliver person- and family-centred care that supports the growth, development, and health of children and adolescents.
