NURBN3101 Transition to Practice and Leadership in Nursing

This unit prepares final-year nursing students to transition seamlessly from student to professional registered nurse, equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary for this pivotal career step. Central to the unit is the development of each student¿s unique professional identity as an emerging clinical nurse leader. Students will engage in reflective practices to explore and articulate their evolving roles, honing personal and professional strategies that support a smooth transition into nursing practice. An essential focus of the unit is readiness for employment within graduate nurse programs, where students will be guided through the application and interview processes, building confidence in resume writing, interview skills, and personal presentation. Additionally, students will examine the complexities and challenges that come with the professional expectations of a registered nurse, with an emphasis on effective management strategies to navigate these transitions. The unit also delves into nursing leadership theories, processes, and models, fostering a practical understanding of how these can be applied to real-world healthcare scenarios. Through case studies and simulations, students will evaluate and apply leadership concepts to address situations they may encounter in professional practice. This equips students to not only adapt to clinical settings but also influence them positively through informed leadership approaches.Lastly, students will critically analyse the role of nursing leadership in shaping healthcare environments. By assessing leadership¿s impact on workplace culture, patient outcomes, and collaborative practices, students will emerge with a deeper understanding of the responsibilities and opportunities inherent in nursing leadership. NURBN3101 ultimately fosters the professional, reflective, and leadership capacities essential for new graduates in the dynamic landscape of contemporary healthcare.

Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee

A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.

The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).

2025 student contribution amount: $578

2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $578

* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.

Clinical Psychology & Professional Pathways

For Clinical Psychology & Professional Pathways bands, the student contribution amount is determined by the accredited course. Visit our CSP page for further information, including a list of accredited courses. Students not studying in an accredited course will pay the fees listed above.

Domestic full fee–paying places

A domestic full fee–paying place is one that isn’t subsidised by the Australian Government. These places are offered to postgraduate students or those who are ineligible for a CSP. Domestic postgraduate tuition fees are course-based annual fees, which means individual unit fees vary according to the degree. International full fee–paying places
