NURBN2107 Care of the Older Person
Care of the Older Person unit focuses on equipping nursing students with the knowledge and skills required to provide comprehensive care to older adults. This unit covers the unique physical, psychological, and social aspects of aging, preparing students to address the diverse and complex needs of the older population. Students will gain an understanding of the normal and abnormal stages of aging and learn to identify and respond to the evolving health requirements of older adults.The unit emphasizes the importance of providing care across various settings, including home care, residential aged care, and acute care environments. Students will explore family-centered care approaches, recognizing the significant role families play in the health and well-being of older adults. Developing effective care planning strategies, including end-of-life planning, is a key component of this unit. By the end of the unit, students will be capable of creating and implementing care plans that are responsive to the current and future needs of older individuals, ensuring their dignity and quality of life are maintained.
Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
