NURBN2103 Mental Health Nursing
The unit introduces students to contemporary mental health nursing concepts embedded within a recovery-oriented and trauma informed practice. It also focuses on collaborative and evidence-based approach to the delivery of mental health care across the life span and diverse population which aligns with current mental health standards and relevant legislation (including the Mental Health and Wellbeing Act 2022). The unit will provide foundational knowledge around therapeutic engagement with people experiencing mental illness/psychological distress on the impact of stigma and ways to address this within health care. Students will learn about various mental health conditions, how to conduct mental health and risk assessments to inform provision of care including pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions. Students will have the opportunity to apply their skills during pre-placement mental health simulations and consolidate those skills by completing 120 hours of mental health placement.
Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
