MIDGD6006 Diversity of Midwifery Practice
This course consolidates midwifery knowledge, skills and application for practice in a variety of diverse settings in which midwives provide care to a range of vulnerable populations in primary health care contexts. The central focus is the diverse role of midwifery practice in providing maternity care in various healthcare contexts including regional, local, national and international contexts. The role of midwifery and maternity care in improving perinatal outcomes for disadvantaged women and families will be discussed and debated including issues of cultural diversity, refugees, and vulnerable populations. The midwives¿ role as a member of a multidisciplinary team is also explored. This course works to put into context for the student, the nature and scope of midwifery practice and the importance of woman centred care and places it as central to securing improved maternal and infant health outcomes.
