LITCR2105 Writing Genres: Mystery, History, Magic Realism and Science Fiction
This is an Intermediate level writing course conducted in a writing seminar format for students to develop their writing practice in Mystery, History, and Magic Realism and / or Science Fiction genres. We will explore the theory and practice of writing structures in these genres and undertake critical peer review of manuscripts created by students. Some themes which will be explored include Four Story Types; Plot vs. Story; Incorporating Dramatic elements in the story - Passion, Theme, Character, and Premise; Storytelling structure's outlining, scenes and sequels; Author viewpoint; Creating memorable characters. In the context of their own writing interests and evolving writing practice students will examine examples of these genres to stimulate their own creative writing projects choosing one particular genre.
Commonwealth supported place (CSP)
A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
